Technically it's Friday, but I weighed Sam last night while it was still Thursday, so it counts!
In one week, Sam has gained 4.2 pounds and is now up to 62 pounds total! I wonder if I'm feeding him too much, but according to the dog food bag I'm not feeding him enough. Sam gets Purina One Large Breed puppy formula (and yes, a Lab isn't supposed to be that large of a breed, but Sam's a mutant), and according to it, he should be getting between 4-6 cups of food a day. Right now Sam gets about 4 cups a day, which should be right on target. Once he hits the six-month-old mark next week, the bag says I should feed him between 6-8 cups a day until he stops growing.
If I fed him what they're recommending, Sam would turn into Clifford or something. I know my dog is a lard, but let's try to keep him within reasonable limits, Purina, all right?
Hi Sam
ReplyDeleteIt's Holly in Ormond Beach. My owner - Christine - reads your blog to me and shows me the videos. I've gotten some good ideas about snacks - I haven't tried tissues yet but did enjoy the rattan tissue holder my owners used to have. Have you tried toilet paper? Not only is it good, but it's also a lot of fun. You can hold on to the end piece and run with a trail following you. It has a yummy cardboard center too! Paper bathroom cups are also a favorite - you can grab them when your owners aren't watching and hide the whole cup in your mouth! I'm growing petty fast too - I'm taller than my step-sister Belle (another chocolate lab) who is 2 1/2. I only went swimming with my owner once and didn't like it but I'll try it again since you enjoy it so much. I think my owner is going to get a large ball for the pool .....
Ciao
Hi Holly!
ReplyDeleteYes I have tried toilet paper--I fetched the end of the roll all the way to Bran's desk three rooms over. It left a great trail but Bran wasn't too pleased. Recyclables are still my favorites but I also like to steal clothes from the laundry room or Bran's hamper and pull the socks off her feet when she's at the kitchen table. I didn't like swimming at first either, because of that time I fell in the pool and sank to the bottom. But I got to wade around in the lake at the dog park and fetch some pine cones in the water, so I got used to it before I tried the pool again. And of course swimming is way more fun when your owner is in the water with you. Bran also has a plastic wading pool that I like to play in when I'm not allowed in the big pool because they're cleaning it or just being difficult about it. Maybe you should try that out, too!
